Legal Victory: Salman Khan Prevails in Rs 9 Crore Defamation Case Against Abhinav Kashyap

Salman Khan took filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap to court over defamation, demanding a permanent stop to such remarks and Rs 9 crore in damages. On January 30, a Mumbai court stepped in with an interim order, barring the Dabangg director from making or sharing any ‘derogatory’ comments about Khan or his family. The judge made it clear: freedom of speech doesn’t extend to abusive or threatening language. The ruling followed a string of fiery statements Kashyap had made against the superstar, his brother Arbaaz Khan, and other family members.

Salman Khan Prevails in Legal Battle Against Abhinav Kashyap

During the defamation case filed by Sikandar actor Salman Khan, Judge PG Bhosale issued an interim order against Abhinav Kashyap. The ruling temporarily restrains the director from making any disparaging remarks about Khan.

The lawsuit didn’t stop at Abhinav Kashyap — it also named several YouTube channels and social media creators. In his plea, Salman Khan alleged that Kashyap had made ‘scandalous, false, and grossly defamatory’ remarks aimed not just at him, but at his family too. He argued these attacks struck at both his professional reputation and personal character. The court has now stepped in, temporarily restraining Kashyap and others from posting or sharing any more derogatory content about the actor or his family.

The court noted that the remarks were, on the face of it, defamatory, abusive, and insulting. Such comments, it said, had damaged Salman Khan’s public image and reputation in the eyes of ordinary people.
“The court stressed that no one has the right to make defamatory remarks about another person’s family. It emphasized that everyone is entitled to safeguard their image and privacy. Freedom of speech, the court noted, does not give license to use abusive or threatening language against others.”

Explained: Salman Khan’s Rs 9 Crore Defamation Fight

Abhinav Kashyap, who collaborated with Salman Khan on the 2010 action-comedy Dabangg, has been taking repeated digs at the actor. While Salman chose to remain silent and maintain his dignity, Kashyap kept making sensational claims. As outlined in Salman’s lawsuit, nearly 26 video interviews and podcasts featuring such remarks were released between September and December 2025.

Salman Khan asked the court to impose a permanent ban on such remarks and to direct social media platforms to remove all objectionable content while issuing an unconditional apology. Alongside this, he sought urgent interim relief to protect his reputation until the case is fully resolved.

Salman Khan hasn’t issued an official statement on the matter, but he did appear to address it indirectly on Bigg Boss 19. Without naming anyone, the actor remarked that some people who once praised him now spend their time making baseless claims in podcasts and interviews. He dismissed these remarks as false and pointless, suggesting they come from having nothing better to do. Salman added that his only request to such people is simple — find something meaningful to work on.

People who once had ties with me, who even praised me in the past, now sit around and speak all kinds of nonsense. These days, they spend their time on podcasts, throwing out baseless claims and false stories simply because they have nothing better to do. My only request to them — and to everyone — is simple: put your energy into doing some real work.

The court’s order was clear: Abhinav Kashyap and others must hold back from putting out any more defamatory content — whether through videos, posts, interviews, or publications. They’ve also been told not to make derogatory remarks or online statements about Salman Khan or his family on social media, at least until they appear before the court and present their side.
