IndiGo bounces back after cancellations

IndiGo has already processed refunds worth ₹610 crore and brought 137 routes back into service, signaling that its recovery from recent cancellations is picking up momentum.

IndiGo announced that it would be running 1,650 flights on Sunday, compared to its usual schedule of 2,300. The disruptions were felt across major airports, with 115 cancellations in Hyderabad, 112 in Mumbai, 109 in Delhi, 38 in Chennai, and 11 in Amritsar. Since Tuesday, the airline has scrapped more than 2,000 flights and delayed many others, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and struggling to manage their travel plans.

India’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, has served a show‑cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers following the severe flight disruptions that have spiraled into one of the country’s worst aviation crises in years. At the same time, the civil aviation ministry has stepped in with strict measures: the airline has been ordered to clear all pending passenger refunds by 8 pm on December 7, and fare caps have been imposed on domestic routes after ticket prices surged as stranded travelers scrambled for alternatives.
